One teacher in Ellicott City pledges to teach controversial Critical Race Theory by Feb. 4

Hs 02

Critical Race Theory will be taught by one teacher in Ellicott City who’s signed an online pledge from the Zinn Education Project by Feb. 4.

They’re one of the thousands of US teachers pledging to continue educating students about the controversial Critical Race Theory, which explains racism is embedded in US culture and politics.

The Ellicott City teacher wrote "I will not lie to my students. History is true. It cannot be changed. We must learn and understand our past. Imagine my surprise when I woke up this AM to the “report a teacher” BS of VAs Youngkin. A man who won the governor’s office on anti CRT/history and now wants to report teachers who are teaching “divisive practices.” GTFO! History is history. You learn from it, not deny it. Not hide behind an acronym of CRT. It’s history. Period." when pledging to teach Critical Race Theory.

Though the concept was first suggested in the late 70’s, it has recently exploded as a contentious issue between the American right and left in the last two years.

Many who signed the pledge are defying state bans on the teachings. Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas have passed legislation banning discussions about the US being inherently racist.

Other states, such as Montana and South Dakota, have denounced the teachings without passing specific legislation.

In an interview with The Washington Free Beacon, Ashley Varner of the Freedom Foundation accused the Zinn Education Project of providing ’left-leaning propaganda to teachers.’
