Cost of college went up for all students at Howard Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.9 percent for 2018-19 at Howard Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Maryland residents paid $6,048 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $168 more than the $5,880 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 19.8 percent more than residents this year, or $7,248. Their price tag grew 4.1 percent from $6,960 in 2017-18.

About 93 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Maryland residents. About 1 percent are residents of other states and 6 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 57 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 537 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.4 million and 125 students took out student loans totaling more than $634,456.

Including all undergraduates (9,211), 4,364 students used grants or scholarships totaling $15.1 million, and 1,126 students took out $6.5 million in federal student loans.
