Howard County issued the following announcement on April 3.
A recent change in Maryland law allows greater flexibility to local school systems in setting school start and ending dates, which has prompted many questions regarding the school start date for the upcoming school year.
Please be aware that no changes will be made to the HCPSS 2019-2020 school calendar, which was approved by the Board of Education in November 2018. The decision to maintain the existing student start date of September 3, 2019 was made in fairness to students, families and staff who have already scheduled vacations, camps, employment and other summer plans.
