HOWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams Advance to NJCAA National Tournament

Calendar stock 01

Howard Community College issued the following announcement on Nov. 1.

With wins this past week, Howard Community College’s men’s and women’s soccer teams will advance to the NJCAA Division III Soccer Championships. Coaches and team captains were exuberant about the wins.

Kate Seagroves, head coach of the women’s team says “I’m not sure I could be more proud of a group of girls than I am of this group. We are extremely young and fresh as we only had three players return from last year’s team. We had a very tough schedule to begin our season, but we learned to play together, learned to battle with some extremely tough opponents, and became a family. We clicked at the right time, and hopefully all that will play to our advantage at the top stage of our careers. I have faith in this group and our coaching staff that we will represent Howard Community College well at the National Championship.”

Sophomore forward and team captain Nikki Vieira adds, “We have worked really hard to get here and have become a family which is really showing on the field as well as off the field. Now we are going to go to the National Tournament at the peak of our strength and we feel like we can win the championship.”

On the men’s side, Head Coach Stefan Draganov said, “We are very proud and excited to be part of another National Tournament. It was an up and down season, but the players stepped it up in the playoffs and fully deserve to be the regional champions. I want to thank my coaching staff and the athletic department for their support as we worked to reach this prestigious accomplishment and represent the college at the national level. We look forward to this new challenge upon us. Let's go Dragons!”

And, sophomore defender and captain Bryce Waller adds, “To be able to go to the Nationals twice as a part of the Dragons family is something I could never dream of, but now that it’s a reality we are looking forward to making the most of this opportunity.”

The national tournaments will take place from November 8-11, 2018. The men will play in Wehrum Stadium in Herkimer, New York and the women will play at Wedgbury Stadium in Loves Park, Illinois.
