Howard County Economic Development Authority issued the following announcement.
The Chief Information Security Officer In-Residence program known as “HOCO CISO” is based at the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship (MCE). This first of its kind program is designed to address the needs of residents and affiliates of the MCE along with the more than 240 member companies of the Howard Tech Council (HTC) who do not have their own Chief Security or Privacy officer.
Through this program, an initiative of the Howard Tech Council, members are able to access a select set of certified senior executive level security professionals in the county who have agreed to serve in a “virtual” capacity providing governance, privacy, risk, and information security management guidance. The HOCO CISO program also functions as an economic development engine connecting members who need additional levels of support with cyber security companies in the local market.
Startups and incubated companies that are developing Intellectual Property, today more than ever, need to engrain a culture of information security awareness and risk mitigation. From accessing open source code to having an on-site meeting with potential partners or clients, these firms need to understand the "Why" of the importance protecting the crown jewels of their hard work. They need to understand that strong information security practice does not come from bolting on a tool, but rather through the culture of the organization. HoCo CISO provides this guidance to strengthen IS posture, thus reducing the potential exposure. Additionally, angel investors and venture capitalists now take stronger due diligence in regard information security and risk positions in their potential investment candidates. HoCo CISO will provide guidance to help organizations be better positioned through the due diligence process.
Two time slots are available the first Thursday of every month; secure your reservation today for this valuable resource. Registration fee of $20.00 is required to guarantee your attendance. Once you've completed your session, you may chose to receive a reimbursement, less fees, or use as a credit toward a Howard Tech Council event. Please contact Tracy Turner, HTC Executive Director at tlturner@hceda.org for more information.
