Patapsco Heritage Greenway issued the following announcement on June 14.
Patapsco Valley State Park extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, encompassing 16,043 acres and eight developed recreational areas. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, horseback and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking for individuals or large groups in the park’s many popular pavilions.
The park is nationally known for its trail opportunities and scenery. We have over 200 miles of trails, with 70 of those miles identified as maintained trails. There are hiker only trails and multi-use trails accessible from many areas of Patapsco.
ALERT - Posted 6/14/18 - Portions of the Avalon Area of Patapsco Valley State Park will re-open Saturday, June 16.
The Grist Mill Trail, Lost Lake Area and new picnic grove will remain closed to all use until further notice. The Glen Artney Area will remain closed to vehicles, but will open to pedestrians. Limitations on grilling / fires along the river remain in place.
Other amenities and facilities may remain unavailable as the cleanup effort continues. Trail users should expect closures on some trails still needing repairs and, for their safety, respect all signs and barriers indicating closed trail segments.
We will continue to re-open the remaining areas and facilities, including popular trails, as soon as it is safe for our visitors.
Park, Trail and River Closures - Due to the construction associated with the Bloede Dam Removal Project, portions of the Grist Mill Trail, the Patapsco River and the park will be closed to visitation.
All closures will occur between Ilchester Road to just downstream of Bloede Dam.
For details, and current status of this project, you can visit the DNR Bloede Dam web page or see the park bulletin board.
