Hospital ward(1000)

Howard County General Hospital issued the following announcement on June 15.

Howard County General Hospital is announcing today that the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality is expanding to the hospital, fortifying the hospital’s ability to provide the highest quality and safest care to the community it serves.

As an Armstrong Institute campus, HCGH patients and providers will have access to state-of-the art safety efforts, continuous quality initiatives to prevent patient harm, and the latest evidence-based protocols.

“Howard County General Hospital already benefits from the advances and innovations of the Armstrong Institute, as a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine,” said Steven C. Snelgrove, president, HCGH. “Having a satellite located here on our campus will build an even stronger relationship between the organizations, and help us to apply institute research to our quality and safety work in a community hospital setting.

The Armstrong Institute was founded in 2011 when C. Michael Armstrong, retired chairman of IBM World Trade Corporation and several other multinational corporations and former chairman of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Board of Trustees, determined to take patient safety and research to the next level. He presented a $10 million gift to create the Armstrong Institute, which merges safety research with safety operations in novel ways. The institute is internationally renowned for its work. HCGH becomes the third Armstrong location, after Johns Hopkins and the Hopkins Bayview campus.

M. Shafeeq Ahmed, M.D., HCGH chief medical officer/vice president of Medical Affairs, has been named director of the Armstrong Institute at HCGH, with Lisa Grubb, senior director of Quality at HCGH, serving as deputy director.
