HOWARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission Provides Opportunities for Student Performances at Merriweather Post Pavilion

The Howard County Public Schools issued the following announcement on June 14.

The Howard County Public School System has partnered with the Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission (DCACC) to support initiatives that promote the benefits of music education programs in Howard County. The partnership was formalized with an official partnership signing on Wednesday, June 13, at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Under the terms of the agreement, DCACC will provide opportunities for HCPSS students and staff to participate in community programming at Merriweather Post Pavilion, the concert and event venue owned by DCACC. DCACC and the school system will collaborate to host a statewide high school jazz festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion. In addition to providing the venue, DCACC will coordinate event staff management and marketing for the annual festival. HCPSS will coordinate with participating statewide high schools and provide performance scheduling for the event.

Howard County Board of Education Members Kirsten Coombs and Sandra French, HCPSS Chief Communication, Community and Workforce Engagement Officer Jahantab Siddiqui, and Music Coordinator Terry Eberhardt joined Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission Executive Director Ian Kennedy to sign the formal partnership agreement at the June 13 event.

The Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission is a not-for-profit community organization dedicated to enhancing the vibrancy of downtown Columbia, Maryland. DCACC works to expand artistic and cultural activities in and around downtown Columbia and at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The Howard County Public School System’s Partnerships Office has united schools with more than 1,000 businesses and community organizations to enhance the educational experience of Howard County students. Partnerships benefit schools, businesses and the entire community by leveraging the resources of all participants. Partners may commit human or financial resources or other support.
