Howard County had the fifth lowest foreclosure rate among Maryland’s urban counties, according to an ATTOM Data Solutions analysis of property data.
One in 635 properties in the county, which is part of the Baltimore-Columbia-Towson Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), started the foreclosure process during the first quarter of the year.
The data shows 181 properties in Howard County with a foreclosure filing during the first three months of 2018. The county has more than 115,000 housing units. The foreclosure rate in the county is up 11.73 percent from the end of 2017 and down 30.65 percent from a year ago.
Prince George’s County in the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria metro area recorded the highest foreclosure rate (1 in 221 properties) for Maryland MSAs during the first quarter. And Frederick County, which is also part of the Washington metro area, had the lowest foreclosure rate for Maryland MSAs (1 in 1,115 properties).
In all of Maryland, 6,286 properties started the foreclosure process in the first quarter – a 7.42 percent decrease over the fourth quarter of 2017 and a 25.65 percent decrease from this time last year.
